12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it. 13 She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings, and so does Mark, my son. 14 Greet one another with the kiss of love.
Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
I know that every word of God’s Word is precious and the ending of Peter’s first letter is no different. Silvanus, Mark and “she who is at Babylon” were all chosen by God the Holy Spirit to be remembered by the audience of Peter as well as examples to us. The endings of most of the epistoles tend to be wonderful commentaries on who God uses and turns away. We could do a deep study into these three names and we’d see that one wrote a Gospel, one was Peter’s as well as Paul’s close travel companion. “She who is at Babylon” could be a female companion, yes. However, it’s more than likely the church in the area where Peter is writing. I only make that claim because Babylon was real place, but it’s also known as a term to reference a very dark, evil place that Christinas find themselves. Either way these people were supporting Peter and they also sent encouragement to his audience.
May God grant us all encouragement and grace from the reading and hearing of His Word.
